The Hopa Crabapple
By Dave Hanks
Mother planted this bush so
Long ago
It was infantile and small, but
It would grow
Many years the branches
Were long and lean
Showing evidence of
A few blossoms in between
But, this year the branches are
Sheer luxury
Giving great pleasure to
You and to me
Once we were tiny and
Quite embryonic
Loving parent’s guidance
Was our “tonic”
And just like the shrub
We grew long and lean
With little evidence of maturity
That could be seen
But, with values stressed
Along the way
We became the individuals
That we are today
(Malus Hopa)
