Swans

Sentinels of the water
    So gracefully sitting.
Perceiving danger from without - or - in -
    As they are quietly gliding.

So vulnerable to destruction -
    This lovely whiteness on the pond.
Whether gun or man's pollution,
    ever silent ......
               and then gone.
